God’s River’s Full of Water

Because you answer prayer, Lord, which we should not forget
when sin in us accumulates and you forgive our debt,
a life of concord with you and in nearness to your side
Is happy, filled with goodness. Those you choose are satisfied.ย

By awesome deeds you answer; youโ€™ve protected us from birth,
O God of our salvation and the hope of all the earth.
The mountains you establish. You subdue the roaring seas.ย
Around the world all people see the signs you post to heed.ย

Your riverโ€™s full of water and your valleys ripe with grain.ย
You crown the year with bounty and relieve our lives of strain.ย
When harvest is sufficient itโ€™s with joy that we respond,
and trust we have a future in the years to come beyond.ย

Refuge from Disgrace

Bad people donโ€™t fight fairly, Lord; please save me from their plots.

Their tongues are sharp, their words are hard, and they take fearless shots.

—-

Thereโ€™s no relent in their intent to set out secret snares.

Theyโ€™re very keen to stay unseen as evil they prepare.

—-

So shoot them down, and wound them, quick, and bring them to their ruin.

Then everyone will spread the word of what you have been doinโ€™.

—-

Weโ€™ll think about the way that you provide a special place

where righteous folks of evโ€™ry type find refuge from disgrace.

Prey for Jackals, Food for Birds

Prey for jackals, food for birds,

in the ditches of the earth,

those who by the sword took life

brought upon themselves this strife.

When those liarsโ€™ mouths get stopped;

honest folks rejoice in God.

My Soul’s Been Fully Fed (Psalm 63:5-8)

As after feasting richly, now

my soulโ€™s been fully fed.

Iโ€™m soaring with excitement though

I meditate in bed.

—-

For God has been the shield to whom

Iโ€™ll turn and ever cling.

In shadow of protecting wings

with joy my heart will sing.

There’s No Relief in Politics

For you, O God, my flesh is faint, my soul as well knows thirst.

Thereโ€™s no relief in politics, and sometimes none in church.

So I have searched inside and found your love, alive within my heart.

With evโ€™rything I am, Iโ€™ll bless your name. These words are but a start.

Salvation’s Mighty Rock

How long, O adversaries, as upon a leaning wall,

will you be pushing โ€˜gainst me in your quest to see me fall?

In falsehood you take pleasure; you speak in words so nice.

Your hearts are full of curses and thoughts enwrapped in lies.

—-

I hope in heaven. My soul awaits my God.

This fortress wonโ€™t be sha-ken; salvationโ€™s, salvationโ€™s mighty rock.

—-

High class is no protection and low class is not a bane.

Eternally theyโ€™re nothing, so to hope in them is vain.

Donโ€™t trust in your investments, their value can go down.

In God is your salvation, a refuge that is sound.

—-

I hope in heaven. My soul awaits my God.

This fortress wonโ€™t be sha-ken; salvationโ€™s, salvationโ€™s mighty rock.

—-

O God, youโ€™ve spoken to us more than once and we have heard,

through sisters, mothers, prophets and the One who was the Word.

With you are both forgiveness and power to repay.

Youโ€™ll openly display them upon the final day.

—-

I hope in heaven. My soul awaits my God.

This fortress wonโ€™t be sha-ken; salvationโ€™s, salvationโ€™s mighty rock.ย

From Distance

O hear me God from distance, and listen to this prayer.

Lead me unto a safer place, a rock or to a tower.

In shelter near your dwelling, within your sacred house,

beneath your wings and near your side, for you have heard my vows.

Iโ€™m awed and even fearful of praying in your name,

but I know that youโ€™ve cared and that you hold me close each day.

All Flora and Fauna and Lands

Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous!

Praise God on your harps and guitars.

With music and songs new and plen-tious,

sing loud so theyโ€™ll hear you on Mars.

—-

Rejoice, rejoice; all mountains and forests and lands.

All flora, and fauna, and people as well clap your hands.

—-

The word of the Lord is uplifting;

The work of our God, likewise, true.

Both justice and righteousness flourish.

This earth, with Godโ€™s love, is infused.

—-

The heavens were made when God spoke them,

and stars by the breath of Godโ€™s mouth.

The seas in the place God appointed

Hold life in their depths like a house.

—-

Let all on the earth gaze in wonder.

Inhabitants stop where we stand.

This planet we share is Godโ€™s making,

the air and all waters and land.

—-

Though politics surely will fail us

and strategies lose their allure,

the council of God stands forever

The people God chooses endure.

Salvation’s Light

God is salvation’s light. Why should we be afraid?

The Lord’s the stronghold of our lives; we need not fear.

One thing we ask, one thing we seek; to dwell with God eternally.

—-

The beauty of the Lord, the safety of God’s courts,

where any question may be put without remorse.

We’re lifted there, in joy to offer sacrifice of joy and praise.

—-

Lord, hear us when we cry, in grace your answers give.

Your face we’ll seek as long as we have breath and live.

Don’t turn us back, forsake us not but hold us tight eternally.
