I Live in the Loving Place

I live in the loving place, come dwell with me.

Just keep the commandments and then you will see.

My joy is complete, and your own can be too.

Just love one another as I have loved you.

—–

The ones who have laid down their lives for their friends,

know greatness and joy that forever extends.

You’re no longer servants. You know what I do.

What’s been told to me is what I’ve told to you.

When We Obey

When we obey the way of God we know we love God’s kin.

Our love for God is shown and known as we obey and live.

What comes from God can overcome the world and all its wiles.

The Holy Spirit testifies it’s done through Jesus Christ.

The Doer of Marvelous Things (Psalm 98)

O sing to the doer of marvelous things.

Shout out a new song to the king of all kings.

In sight of the nations where victory’s shown

God’s steadfast and faithful love surely are known.

A joyful noise make to the Lord, all the earth;

break forth into verses of praising and mirth.

Accompany songs with both drums and guitar.

Play loudly so you can be heard from afar.

Let oceans and rivers and mountains join in.

All beings on earth claim a share of the din,

for when the Lord comes we will all be set free

the judgment of God will confirm equity.

The Holy Spirit Fell

The Holy Spirit fell on people while they heard the word.

There was surprise for circumcised among them thought it weird.

While tongues were spoken praising God the head apostle asked,

“Can water be withheld from folks the Spirit clearly has?”

Love that Doesn’t Change

For love that doesn’t change, O God, we give our thanks to you.

No credit to us people, though. Your love is nothing new.

When in distress we cry and find a different, broader place;

where nobody can harm us, for we’re in your strong embrace.

When we take refuge in you, Lord, the haters have no chance.

Their pow’r and rank mean nothing, for you view them in askance.

They sting like bees and blaze like thorns; they push on ev’ry side.

We’re confident in you, O God. You are our strength and might.

The righteous sing of victory won by the Lord’s right hand.

We shall not die, but live to tell God’s deeds throughout the land.

The gates of righteousness stand widely open in advance.

That we may enter to give thanks in voice and song and dance.

The stone that was rejected when the builders set the wall

became the one to bear the weight so others wouldn’t fall.

This is the day the Lord has made. Be glad in it, rejoice!

We ask you, God, to grant success, for we are yours by choice.

Bless everyone who in God’s name has come to any place

rejoicing in God’s steadfast love and everflowing grace.

For love that doesn’t change, O God, we offer thanks to you.

Your light has shined upon us. We’ll respond by shining, too.

After the Sabbath

After the sabbath three women brought spices

planning to finish what men left undone.

Sun had arisen when they went to visit,

wondering how they might open the tomb.

—-

When they arrived they encountered no problem,

and a young man told them what they should know.

“Jesus has risen. He’s not where they laid him.

Tell his disciples where they ought to go.”

On Morning Midst the Tombs

She came that morning to the tomb and saw the stone removed,

Then ran to two apostles telling what she thought was true.

Away they sped, with one ahead who dared not go inside.

The other came. They took a look, believing at the sight.

—-

They went back home, but Mary stayed and looked inside the tomb,

where angels sat in Jesus’ place (there was sufficient room).

They asked why she was weeping and she spoke of whom she missed.

She heard a sound and turned around, not thinking “who is this?”

—-

She thought he was the gardener and asked him for the corpse.

He spoke her name and then she knew this was her Lord, of course.

“Do not hold on, but get you gone, you’ve news to tell our friends.”

She went, announcing what she’d seen and heard, as she was sent.

God Shows No Partiality

God shows no partiality, and all who do what’s right

Find God’s acceptance and God’s peace as preached by Jesus Christ.

That message spread throughout the land as Jesus went about,

did good, releasing folks oppressed, and casting demons out.

We witnessed ev’rything he did, how he set people free.

But human evil seized and hung him dying on a tree.

God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear

To chosen people: eating, drinking, sitting very near.

We’re told to preach the gospel and to truly testify,

That he’s ordained by God to judge the living and who’s died.

The prophets, too, have told us so, that all who have believed,

From Jesus Christ forgiveness through his name alone forgiveness have received.

When Oppression Ends

When oppression ends things start to change.

Borders shift, the land and the sea rise.

That is God at work: rearranging.

Tremble if you even think you’re wise.

Yeasty!

It only takes a little yeast to leaven lots of dough.

The ways that things were always done have often led to woe.

Our paschal lamb, Lord Jesus Christ, who has been sacrificed,

Invites us all to celebrate, rejoicing in the light.
