Divided by More Than a Door

One rich man lived well only feet from one poor

who longed for the scraps that were left.

The leper was hungry and covered with sores

Which dogs found delicious to lick.

—–

In death they switched sides, one to bliss one to blame.

The rich man addressed an appeal.

He wanted a favor to cool down the flame

and the agony that he now could feel.

—–

Reminder was made of the good he’d received

while poverty lay at his door.

To balance things out a great chasm was fixed

and sides were assigned evermore.

—–

“Perhaps, “ said the rich man, “my brothers might learn

if someone should rise from the dead.

Send one whom they’ll recognize, whom they won’t spurn.”

But “NO!” was what Abraham said.

Godly Contentment

Be content with what you’ve got and to it add the ways of God.

If your aim is to be rich, your quest could fail, and that’s a bitch.

Further, wealth’s a fickle goal that hounds your heart and saps your soul.

Better far to shun all this, pursuing love and gentleness.

—–

Faith alone is where you fight to take hold of eternal life.

That confession you once made remains until this day the best.

By the God who gives us life we call that you should follow Christ,

Keep commandments blamelessly until Christ Jesus’ coming day.

—–

As for those already rich, remind them there could be a switch.

Fortunes, safety, earthly things, but not the riches Jesus gives.

Wealth that’s true is doing good and sharing everything they could.

Treasure stored in heaven high will yield the living that it should.

Choose to Live in Shelter, Shadow…

Choose to live in shelter; shadow, of the One in whom you trust;

find, there, rescue from the threats that lie in wait to see you crushed.

—–

God has wings where you’ll find refuge. Steady, strong and fastened tight.

You won’t need to fear attacks or pestilence that stalks at night.

—–

God delivers and protects, so call the One who will defend.

Hear the answer, know the presence, find the life that never ends.

A Real Estate Tip

Even prison bars can’t stop a little info getting through.

Certain things that kings can’t know are part of what the felons use.

—–

Agents acting for another run affairs both small and great.

Trusting God for future care they even deal in real estate.

When a Landlord Called Her Agent

When a landlord called her agent to account for certain costs,

knowing he’d been caught he sought to cover up what had been lost.

—–

From the boss’s Rolodex he called the debtors one by one;

offered discounts for repayments, here a bushel, there a ton.

—–

Shrewdness is a trait that can be used for evil or for good.

Even she who had been cheated knew where everybody stood.

—–

Make new friends, be faithful always, over little, over much.

Use your wealth, but serve your God, and do not lose your loving touch.

First I Urge

First I urge that prayers and thanks be

made to God for everyone.

That includes for kings and leaders,

good or bad, it must be done.

Pray that they will rule in ways that

lead to quiet and to peace.

So that we may live in days of

godliness and dignity.

—–

What is right, acceptable to

God who wants to see all saved

is that everyone know truth and

revel in it all our days.

Christ alone, himself a human,

mediates ‘tween God and us.

Come and share the glorious gospel.

Shine the light of Jesus thus.

From the Rising of the Sun

Praise, all servants of the Lord,

praise God’s name forevermore,

from the rising of the sun

to the hour when day is done.

Seated over nations, kings;

Glory greater than all things.

—–

Looking down on earth and space,

With compassion, healing grace.

Raising poor and needy up

Lifting all from ash and dust

Giving barren women home

Granting them a fruitful womb.

God Keeps Receipts

God remembers, keeps receipts, the land will pay for people’s sin.

Flood and famine bring the ruin of the ones who thought to win.

Feasts to mourning, songs to wailing, sadness will suffuse the crowd.

Noontime darkness, bitterness that’s overwhelming like a shroud

—–

“Time is coming,” says the Lord, “for famine on the fertile land.”

Not for food or even water, but for WORD to understand.

Prone to wonder, folks will wander to and fro and sea to sea,

Seeking but not finding what the LORD reveals invisibly.
