As the Time for Glory Neared

As the time for glory neared, he spoke, instead, of coming death.

“Those who love their life will lose, but they who hate: eternal breath.”

Follow where I’m headed, serve me. God will honor nothing less.”

—–

“Troubled in my soul I know that this is why I’m here with you.

Though misunderstanding stalks me, something good is coming due.

When I’m lifted I will draw all people to the thing that’s true.”

—–

Knowing more than crowds around him: how and when he’d come to die;

warning of surrounding darkness; promising a little light,

urging to the last, belief, he said his bit and then took flight.
