To let the Spirit lead the way I kept my tongue controlled,
not using lofty wisdom to convince or leave you cold.
I spoke in weakness and in fear, so you might come to faith.
I preached of Jesus, crucified, and let him make the case.
—–
The wisdom that we preach is not the fashion of this age.
It’s from before the time when earth’s foundations were first laid.
No eye has seen, no ear has heard, nor has a mind conceived
what God prepares for those who love and have sincere belief.
—–
The Spirit searches everything divine and earthly, too.
We, humans, cannot comprehend ourselves completely through.
The gifts that God has given us are understood at all
through means that God alone bestows on those who hear the call.
—–
So, listen when we speak of things like mystery and grace.
These are not human wisdom; they fit in a different place.
They’re foolishness to people who decline the Spirit’s nod.
We have the mind of Christ so we discern the things of God.
