Joy is Gone

Wailing fills the air around me, rises high and echoes wide.

Where prosperity once flourished, now it seems that all has died.

“God is absent, we’re unguided, and our idols do not hear.”

Having reaped what they had so-wn, they’re surprised that it is fear.”

Even priests find nothing helpful. There’s no balm in Gilead.

No physician has a cure for people both depressed and sad.

If my head were full of water and my eyes could flow with tears,

I would weep for my poor people, not for nights or days, but years.
