Dark Things of Former Days

Heed my teaching as I say dark things of the former days

that we have both heard and known; glorious deeds the Lord has done.

—–

God appointed me to teach to the generations, these

stories of ancestors who failed at trust and goodness, too.

—–

God was angry, full of rage, nonetheless the Lord kept faith;

sent them meat and bread for food, blessings they did not refuse.

 —–

They went on by sin and death, thinking not that faithfulness

might produce prosperity for us, their posterity.

—–

When their priests fell by the sword, no one cared and not one mourned.

Learn from this and mend your ways. God is faithful ev’ry day.
