
They watched him when he joined some friends one sabbath day to dine.
He watched them, too, as they selected places that were fine.
Advising them to choose their spaces with a humble eye,
He drew a lesson wider than the seating, low or high.

Exalt yourself and you’ll be humbled. Down begins with up.
And when it is your turn to share, invite the poor to sup.
They can’t repay, and that’s OK. Your blessing is assured.
When righteous rise you’ll find your prize. On that, you have God’s Word.
