The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt,
“This month shall be first of the whole year for you.
The whole congregation, each fam’ly and household,
must each take a lamb for the thing they must do.”
—–
It must be a male from the sheep or the goats and
it must be unblemished if it is to do.
The slaughter at twilight is followed by putting
some blood on the doorposts and lintel bar, too.
—–
The same night a feast of roast lamb, herbs and bread will
be held near the fire where the lamb was cooked whole.
Leave nothing for morning and burn what remains while
you’re girded and sandaled and ready to go.
—–
The Lord will pass over and judge all of Egypt.
The marks on your houses will save you from death.
Remember this day throughout all generations,
wherever you are while you still can draw breath.
