Gabriel in Galilee (For March 25)

Gabriel in Galilee, a town called Nazareth

Said to Mary, virgin child, en-gag-ed to Joseph,

“Greetings to you, favored one, The Lord is with you here.”

She, perplexed, sat pondering, and showed a little fear.

—–

“Mary, do not be afraid for grace you have received.

Favor with the Lord you’ve found, and so you will conceive,

give birth to a son and name him Jesus, he’ll be great.

Throne of David, house of Jacob, endless be his reign.

—–

Then said Mary to the angel, “I am not so sure.”

God knows that I’m still a virgin, I’ve not been impure!”

So the angel told her of the plan of God above,

Holy child, the Son of God conceived through perfect love.

—–

“Go and see, your cousin’s old but she’s conceived a son.

Nothing is impossible with God the Holy One.

Then said Mary, “Here I am, the servant of the Lord.

Let it be with me as well, according to your word.”
