Filled with the awesome Holy Spirit’s pow’r,
and led into the fearsome wilderness,
fasting and famished after forty days,
our Lord was tempted while he was distressed.
—–
That’s when the tempter turned to Him and said,
“If you’re the Son of God make bread from stone.”
Jesus replied, “It’s written to be read,
see here, one does not live by bread alone.”
—–
Showing the kingdoms of the world at once,
the tempter offered power: “Worship me.”
Once more, from scripture Jesus pointed out,
“To God alone let worship, service be.”
—–
Two can quote scripture so the temper turned
to holy writ and tempted once again.
Jesus rebuffed him from another source.
The devil then departed. Angels came.
