Transfiguration

Four friends went out one day. They climbed the Mount and prayed.

When one among them looked to God his face was changed.

His clothes as well were dazzling white and prophets stood at both his sides.

—–

Within this awesome sight, with words they prophesied

the things he’d do and how he would be glorified.

Though weary from the climb they saw the ones who brought God’s word and law.

—–

The vision was sublime; the mountaintop so fine

That one among them thought to stay and build a shrine.

Then came a cloud and voice out loud instructing him to think again.

—–

When all of this was done, and seeing Him alone,

they told no one of what they’d seen or come to know.

They went back down to fields and towns, the visions and the voice were gone.

—–

Again among a crowd, unshielded by a cloud

with needy ordinary people all around.

He marveled at their faithlessness but met the need and walked away.
