You trample on the needy and bring the poor to ruin,
while thinking only how you’ll earn money when the moon
gives signal that the markets, the places where you cheat,
will open to allow you to profit from bad wheat.
—–
The Lord has seen and sworn that your deeds won’t be forgot.
The very land will tremble and all will know you’re caught.
You’ve risen, but the time will come when you will surely fall.
Prepare for lamentations. It’s coming for you all.
—–
A time is surely coming of hunger and of thirst.
But not for bread and water, a famine that is worse.
For people haven’t listened, the word of God to hear.
They’ll wander to and fro, but they will not find it near.
