When ruled the Roman kings, and governors, and priests,
in wilderness arose a man through whom God spoke.
Turn from your sins and be baptized
God will forgive and give you life.

A voice declares out there, “God’s road must be prepared.
The path must be made straight, the rough spots brought to grade.”
And humankind will know the things
that God’s salvation comes to bring.
