If nations shared and truly cared that all folks get along,
We’d live unscared and even dare to help make others strong.
——–
But woe to us, it is not thus. Alas, we fuss and fight.
Our glory’s spent. It’s evident that something isn’t right.
——–
We fear each other and ascribe ill will to everyone.
Our lack of trust finds nothing just as governing is done.
——–
If not by drought, then it’s by flood that harvests are destroyed.
The forecasts of new normalcy demonstrably are void.
——–
“This, too, will pass.” It cannot last. The hard thing’s getting through.
A generation yet to come will have a better view.
