The field is yours in total, and all that on it grows,
but when you take the harvest, leave something back for those,
who have no land or harvest, that they can call their own.
They live by taking gleanings, the surplus that you’ve sown.
—–
You’re settled and are earning; they wander on the road.
You wake in bed each morning; they shiver in the cold.
The harshness that has fallen, on poor folk here and there,
is softened and abated, when faithful people share.
