Responding to Healing

A mine owner and miner once met in the cancer ward,

the miner on Obama care, the owner with Blue Cross.

The therapies that each received had positive effects.

The life of each one onward showed a different aspect.

The bills were paid in diff’rent ways, deductibles applied.

One went off for a fancy cruise, and one back to the mine.

Thanksgiving prayers in churches were concluded differently.

At one a hushed “Amen” and at the other, revelry.

They both returned to visit where they once had been confined;

donating what they had to spare: one money, one his time.

Each one of them made threescore ten before his time was called.

The name of one lives on in hearts, the other’s on a wall.
