When he slaughtered the ox and the ram sacrificed,
for the people’s well-being and life
Aaron’s sons brought the blood which he dashed on the sides
of the altar that was sanctified.

First the fat from the organs was laid on the meat,
then they burnt it to smoke in the fire.
But the breast was held back, with a wave to the Lord,
meeting what Moses’ law had required.
