It’s Not What the Little Eyes See

Sunday school children sing “be careful little eyes”.

This instruction leads to people living like we’re blind.

Thinking we should look away from nakedness as sin

We can fail to see the things that race and class unpin.

In the quest for purity we turn our eyes away,

cutting out of  fellowship who dares to disobey,

So we punish weak and poor by keeping them at bay,

fencing off their futures through the doom that we convey.
