My Beloved

Hear, my friends, as I describe the one I love above all else.

Since you asked, now let me answer, telling some of what I’ve felt.

He is better than ten thousand: radiant, ruddy, head to toe.

Well endowed of mind and spirit. Curly raven-tresses grow.

Shining eyes gaze out in wonder over cheeks of sheer delight.

Lips as lilies, arms of gold, a body no one could dislike.

Legs like columns, feet of gold, a mountain with the finest wood.

As he speaks, I more desire him. One like him would do you good.
