When with haughty eyes we disregard the poor;
lose our ears to hear their cries outside the door;
when our hearts are proud, our souls get shrunk within;
then our lights go out and we get trapped in sin.
When our neighbors find no mercy in our eyes,
Neither earth nor heaven, hears our needy cries.
God on high observes the houses where we live.
Casting us to ruin, hurls us off a cliff.
