The things we say can bring us strife
like floggings, shame and ruined life.
But, they might also satisfy
our needs to know and pacify.
—–
The ways we speak reveal our state:
the poor will plead, the rich berate.
When swift to speak before we’ve heard
We’re seen as fools by our own word.
—–
We trap ourselves by things we say:
betraying others’ private way;
We fall to folly’s drowning pow’r
while missing wisdom’s cleansing show’r.
