Make this the apple of your eye,
to hear my words and then apply
commandments that will give you life
and teachings that will make you wise.

Let wisdom as your sister start
to write these things upon your heart.
Defend yourself from bitter end;
take insight as your closest friend.

A tempter’s words are silky smooth,
when heard by simple ones and youths.
They promise pleasure worth pursuin’
but ultimately lead to ruin.
—–
Avoid the tempter’s offered path
and save yourself from grief and wrath.
Temptation lies with ev’ry breath
to lead us on the way to death.
