Heartless people (some religious), use what weapons fall to hand
when a person dares to doubt things that are hard to understand.
Making accusations wildly, quoting verses, threat’ning hell,
‘stread of list’ning, caring, loving, comfort giving, making well.
—–
When “God’s friends” have been abusers, when corruption is their way
even God sees nothing good in what they do or what they say.
None can blame their victims for concluding that their god is not.
These are neither fools nor evil. They reject what bad folks taught.
—–
God, have mercy on the fools who, sure of you, drive others off.
God, have mercy on the victims, who have learned to doubt and scoff.
Bring us all into your presence, teach us all to love and live.
We’ll rejoice to be your people. Praises to your name we’ll lift.
