What’s Holy Anyway? (Psalm 99)

The “holy” angels all fall short. They just hold up a chair.

The “holy” city fails as well, because it’s just a “there”.

And any thing or person we can name is quite the same.

For “God alone is holy” let all people now exclaim.

—–

The justice and the equity both testify each day.

God’s standards of performance are above the human fray.

We bow in worship as before one greater far than we

For equity and justice are what make us truly free.

—–

Some heroes of past centuries (all sinners such as we),

experienced God’s answers when they found themselves in need.

God’s word from cloudy pillars and an ever sure decree

assured them of acceptance and of holiness indeed.
